Fitness Boot Camp In
question for Physical Fitness people: i was in marine corps boot camp, to pass the physical fitness test......
the minimum for the marine corps is 3 pull ups, 80 sit ups in 2 minutes, and the 3 mile run in 23 minutes. i couldnt do 1 pull up! lol, its funny now but back then if i didnt do the minimum in all 3 events i couldnt become a Marine. when it was almost graduation time, the final physical fitness test came a week before graduation. 80 sit ups in 2 minutes was no problem for me, even the 3 mile run. i was given a choice of which event to go on first. i wanted to try the pull ups first. but one of the sargeants suggested to me to run the 3 miles first. against my better judgement, i took his advice. after the 3 mile run i done the pull ups, i done 6!! i was amazed! please fitness people, what did the sargeant know that i didnt? why after the 3 mile run was i able to do 6, an amazing feat for me?
Well, it's pretty simple... he knew that you were going to have several things going for you. First of all, your muscles were going to be warmed up. Having your heart rate up for the 20 - 30 minutes required for the run gets your adrenaline pumping as well. However, you cannot count out your endorphine level was most likely elevated as well...
Your sergeant definitely knew what he was doing!
